Branches of the Relationship with the Quran

At the Beginning of Your Relationship with the Quran

At the beginning of your relationship with the Quran..

Listen to a surah you love, in the voice of a reciter you love -regardless of whether he has mastered tajweed or not, because the aim here is to build love between you and the Quran-.

If you face a problem, or a thought in your mind that you want to be sure of, open the Mushaf at random, then see how it gives you the solution you want for any problem -I know there is a juristic disagreement over this matter (taking a good omen from the Quran) and I do not want to go into it; but once again, the aim here is to create a first relationship with the Quran-

Set yourself a daily portion of the Quran at the start of the day; do not abandon it or put it off, whatever happens, for it is your impregnable fortress with which you meet the toil and hardship of the day. And do not delay it to the end of the day, after you have taken many blows! Prevention is better than cure, and this fortress gives you, by Allah's permission, strength, good omen, protection and care for the day; you feel intimacy and richness filling your heart, and you feel that the rest of the day, its provision and its people, are additions, nothing more!

The Branches of the Relationship with the Quran, and the Degrees of Taking the Book with Strength

By branching out the relationship with the Noble Quran, I mean that one's relationship with it should be manifold, not of a single kind; it is not right for a person to limit himself to recitation alone, or to be content with memorization alone, or with tafsir and understanding alone. Rather, these are kinds that he must take up and whose path he must walk, but gradually. And we will learn how this path goes and what the evidence for it is.
