Untying Psychological and Past Associations

A task I always give my mind: untying psychological and past associations!

Let's suppose something embarrassing happened to you in an ice cream shop; every time you see its logo and colors, you instantly remember that moment, and you feel miserable and embarrassed

You could have treated it as a mental puzzle you hand to your mind to untangle: untie the association, please!, ignore it, forget it, nobody even noticed you, and honestly, nobody's making themselves miserable over it but you!

What actually happens: you go to that shop happy and enjoying yourself.

Who forms the knots and associations? You.

Who unties them? You.

And beware of excessive emotional and impulsive expression, for it is one of the greatest causes of misery! That is because it makes the associations stronger and sharper

Hold to moderation in feeling anger, embarrassment, love, joy, and sadness.

Do you understand now why his laughter ﷺ was a smile? And do you know why he forbade tearing one's garments and slapping one's face in grief? Because exaggerated emotional expression destroys the mind and the psyche.

And stay away from every source that gives you exaggerated expression: some posts, the news, videos, stories,,,

Even in body language, avoid excessive expression.

There are those for whom every corner of life reminds them of misery and resentment, and there are those for whom every atom of it reminds them of gratitude and contentment.
