{And He found you lost and guided [you], and He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient}
The exegetes differed over how Allah found His Prophet Muhammad ﷺ poor and made him self-sufficient, when the Messenger of Allah did not have that wealth and riches, nor money?
They said it is explained by the authentic hadith of the Messenger of Allah “Richness is not having many possessions (wealth and goods), but richness is richness of the soul”
I say: This verse {And He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient} is linked to what precedes it {And He found you lost and guided [you]}. He found you lost and guided you with the revelation, the Quran, and He found you poor of soul and weak of soul, scattered, divided, gloomy, lonely, fearful, and anxious, so He enriched your soul with the Quran and filled the hunger of your spirit with the revelation, so your scattered self came together, your spirit found comfort, your heart was reassured, and your composure settled.
Set yourself a daily portion of the Quran that you never leave; you will attain richness of the spirit, it will be gathered together, your spirit will be reassured, and your soul will grow more cohesive and steadfast in the face of hardships and calamities.
And among his supplications ﷺ was “O Allah, revive me,” that is: revive and strengthen my heart. And does the heart revive and grow strong except through the Quran?
And it is reported in a narration: "The Quran: there is no poverty after it and no richness without it"
And his saying ﷺ “He is not one of us who does not yataghanna with the Quran” has two aspects: richness and being content without need (istighnāʾ), and another aspect: the beautiful voice.
So the meaning may be: He is not one of us who does not find richness in the Quran and suffice with it {And is it not sufficient for them that We revealed to you the Book which is recited to them}
And in the interpretation of the saying of the Exalted {He said, “O Moses, I have chosen you over the people with My messages and My words [to you]. So take what I have given you and be among the grateful”} that is: take it and suffice with it, and do not extend your eyes to anything else, and this is the saying of the Exalted {And We have certainly given you seven of the often repeated [verses] and the great Quran. Do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [certain] categories of them, and do not grieve over them. And lower your wing to the believers}.
Abu Talib al-Makki mentioned in Qut al-Qulub: "Some of the shaykhs told me regarding its meaning: that one of the close reciters was afflicted with such severe poverty that it grieved him and he was at his wits' end. He said: He saw in a dream as if someone were saying to him: Would you like it if We made you forget Surat al-An'am and you had a thousand dinars? He said: No. He said: Then Surat Hud? He said: No. He said: Then Surat Yusuf? He said: No. He said: Then you have with you the value of a hundred thousand, and you complain of poverty! So he awoke, and his worry had been lifted from him.
And thus it came in the report: (Taghannaw with the Quran — that is, find richness through it — and whoever does not find richness through the verses of Allah the Exalted, may Allah the Mighty and Majestic not enrich him; and the Quran is the richness with which there is no poverty and after which there is no richness; and whoever Allah has given the Quran and then thinks that anyone is richer than him has mocked the verses of Allah the Exalted.
And in another wording: then he has made light of what Allah the Mighty and Majestic sent down). And in the well-known hadith: ((Whoever does not yataghanna with the Quran is not one of us”. And in the concise report: ((Certainty suffices as richness)) and the Quran is the truth of certainty."
