Reflections on the Quran & Sunnah

The Prohibition of Reviling and Insulting Oneself

"That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: When one of you dozes while praying, let him sleep until sleep leaves him, for when one of you prays while dozing, he does not know; perhaps he means to seek forgiveness and instead reviles himself"

In it is the safeguarding and protection of the self, even from its own owner, lest he transgress against it with reviling, insults, and harm!

And so great is the safeguarding, protection, and respect of the self that he commanded him to sleep if he dozes, rather than revile himself! And invoke evil upon it.
